This climbing vine is one of the eight species of Clematis native to Australia, found in New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia. It is deciduous, but bursts out in spring with masses of flowers 3-4 cm across. It goes by the common names of "Traveller's Joy" or, rather unkindly, as "Old Man's Beard".

When I posted a macro of some Wonga vine flowers a few days ago, Tacheles asked if there are any long billed birds to eat the nectar. It so happens there are, the birds are called Eastern Spinebills and I found I had some images of one taken a few years ago and not previously posted. Other photos are in the PiPs.

Aged shiraz

Australia's Barossa Valley avoided the ravages of phylloxera which decimated European vines in the late 19th century, so these old shiraz vines, at about 170 years, are among the world's oldest. Can't have a good wine without a song. :-)

Blossoms of the Wonga Wonga vine (Pandorea pandorana). The Wonga Wonga is an Australian native vine that now is popular in gardens, not least because of its flowers which are about 20mm long and have been hybridised to give different colours.
