Auckland area autumn

06 Sep 2024 28 30 211
Part of the beautifully landscaped grounds of the Westbrook Vineyard and Winery, not far from Auckland. The wine I sampled there was also very tasty. Wishing everyone a Happy Fence Friday and a great weekend to follow.

Auckland from a volcano

22 Aug 2024 47 32 266
Auckland viewed from the park on Mt Eden volcano site and crater, The distant peak, just right of centre above another viewing area, is the cone of another former volcano. As the information sign in the second PiP notes, the volcanoes began erupting in this area some 150,000 years ago. Typically each erupted only once. The most recent was 800 years ago ...... are they finished? As I noted several days ago, outside activities (good) are likely to make my involvement here occasional for a while. Wishing everyone a Happy Fence Friday and a good weekend to follow.

Near Auckland

This well made dry stone wall is near one of the Auckland region's extinct volcanic vents. Wishing everyone a Happy Wednesday Wall.

Auckland benches

Benches seen near an Auckland waterfront suburb. Happy Bench Monday and let's all hope for a good week.

Best viewed large. Happy Bench Monday and have a good week, everyone.

Misty morning

30 May 2024 22 16 427
The Sky City tower in Auckland, with (very) early morning mist swirling around.

Plastic wall

29 May 2024 24 17 308
This plastic wall caught my attention while visiting Auckland's Mt Eden. In the background is Mt Hobson, with part of Auckland Harbour more distant at left. Happy Plastic Wednesday Wall, everyone.

The red phone

Seen in an Auckland park. Wishing everyone a Happy Bench Monday and a good week to follow.

Auckland wharf

Interesting buildings on an Auckland wharf, with styling similar to an ocean liner. Happy Fence Friday and have a great weekend, everyone.

Contrasting Auckland buildings

23 May 2024 16 9 172
As I noted with my earlier image, it's good that Auckland has preserved so many older buildings, though it does lead to some interesting contrasts.

Ferry Building walls

22 May 2024 25 19 239
Auckland seems to have preserved its classic buildings more than Australian cities. How good are the details on these walls on the Ferry Building in the Downtown/maritime area! Viewed large the building name is legible near the end roof. Happy Wednesday Wall, everyone.

Auckland building

I think this interesting and very colonial Auckland building is part of the NZ High Court.

Auckland tree

17 May 2024 24 23 238
This tree is in an Auckland park. It reminded me of the film "Lord of the Rings" , though maybe that is not surprising as much of that film was shot in New Zealand.

Sky City Tower

16 May 2024 30 28 337
The tower is seen in this image in its context with the associated casino and hotel. In the PiP it is seen from the other side (with no windows). As there also are fences on the building, I'll pop this up as a HFF image. Happy Fence Friday and have a good weekend, everyone. Best viewed on black.

Sky City Tower

16 May 2024 33 25 259
Sky City Tower overshadows most images of Auckland. In the foreground are extensive roadworks, associated with the construction of a major railway tunnel project. Happy Fence Friday, everyone.

Tall wall

14 May 2024 24 21 249
Taken from a hotel where I was staying, the curved wall on the left is the Sky City Tower which rises above Auckland to 328M. The tower makes a great reference point when touring the nearby countryside. Happy Wednesday Wall, everyone.
