New Fish Markets
16 Mar 2025 |
Unlikely as it may seem, the Fish Markets are among Sydney's more visited tourist attractions, particularly for visitors from Asia. The current Fish Markets are old and inadequate (just off to the left of this image), so that large sweeping building is being constructed to house new ones. It is due for completion late this year.
Meanwhile, there are benches in the foreground, so it's time to wish everyone a Happy Bench Monday - and a good week to follow.

Benches seen near an Auckland waterfront suburb.
Happy Bench Monday and let's all hope for a good week.

It was a lovely winter's day today. These benches are overlooking the Moruya River. Happy Bench Monday and best wishes for the coming week, everyone.

Interior of a tram on Sydney Light Rail. Outside peak times, there are plenty of benches from which to choose.
Happy Bench Monday and have a good week, everyone.
Bay of Islands benches

Our cruise around the Bay of Islands finally stopped at Urupukapuka Island, where there is a cafe at Otehei Bay. It was becoming a little cool and not 'outside' weather at this stage, so you have your choice of outdoor benches. Best viewed large to choose.
Wishing everyone a Happy Bench Monday and a good week to follow.
Bayside benches

Wavy benches in the town of Paihia, the entry to the Bay of Islands in New Zealand. I was rather taken, too, by the illustrated electricity box alongside.
Happy Bench Monday and have a good week, everyone.
Bundanoon Station - going north
17 Mar 2024 |
A few weeks ago I posted an image of the southbound side of Bundanoon Station. This is looking across the tracks to the northbound platform, where you would catch the train to Sydney. Maybe the sign at right fits well with my most recently posted image!
Wishing everyone a Happy Bench Monday and a good week to follow.
Near Chinatown

This little pedestrian area is near Chinatown in Sydney and, as it was just after the Lunar New Year celebrations, the lanterns were still on display. Best viewed on black.
Happy Bench Monday and have a good week, everyone.

Shady benches facing the street in Leighton Park, Moss Vale.
Happy Bench Monday, everyone, have a good week.
Spencer Street

Spencer Street is one of the main railway stations in Melbourne. It was many years since I had visited and I was surprised that not only has it been totally rebuilt, but it now is privatised and called Southern Cross station.
While you await the train (or whatever else), Happy Bench Monday, everyone.
More Docklands benches
10 Dec 2023 |
Melbourne's Dockland area is now full of modernistic high-rise apartment buildings - very much a matter of taste! While you contemplate your views on them, you could rest on the rather uncomfortable looking benches in the foreground.
Happy Bench Monday, everyone, and have a good week.
Over the water

In this case, the photo was taken over the water from Australia, in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Wishing everyone a Happy Bench Monday and a good week to follow.
Shaded benches
21 Aug 2023 |
There's a bench here for everyone - in the open or under the shade. An interesting arrangement I'd not seen previously (may need to view large) with the recycled windmills providing the shade.
Wishing everyone a Happy Bench Monday and a good week following.
Bedourie benches
07 Aug 2023 |
Bedourie is the administrative centre of the Shire of Diamantina, which also has the towns of Birdsville and Betoota. The Shire is the largest in Queensland and covers an area of almost 95,000 sq km, which makes it larger than Hungary, Portugal or Ireland (among other countries). The permanent population of Bedourie in the 2016 Census was 122 (the entire Shire had 266).
Anyway, it's a long trip to get there (over 1,600 km from Brisbane, the State capital), so take a rest on the bench (also seen in the PiP). Happy Bench Monday and best wishes for the week, everyone.
Birdsville
23 Jul 2023 |
Welcome to Birdsville, one of Australia's more iconic remote townships with (as shown in the PiP) a population of about 115 (+/- 7,000) depending on whether an "event" (such as the Birdsville Races) is happening. Best viewed large.
Taking the lead of the people sitting outside, I'll wish everyone a very Happy Bench Monday and a great week to come.
Benches for all
26 Feb 2023 |

There are three benches here, which should allow everyone to take a rest. The large trees, I'm fairly sure, are examples of Moreton Bay Figs, a species native to Australfig.
Happy Bench Monday and have a good week, everyone.
New marina
27 Nov 2022 |
This very new marina in its new artificial harbour, has just been dug out of the land at Shellharbour and connected by a channel dug to the ocean to fill it. As can be seen in the background (and PiP) new buildings are now being erected around it.
Wishing everyone a Happy Bench Monday and a good new week.
Lakes Entrance Benches
