Today we were reminded that it was exactly 75 years since the surrender of Singapore. Some years ago we visited the restored "Battle Box" (the name for the military headquarters - see note) where the underground bunkers had been refitted as original and with very lifelike mannequins of the military personnel. It felt a little spooky! That's Lieutenant-General Percival on the right, who was forced to surrender the island and nearly two hundred thousand military personnel became war prisoners. Courtesy of the Japanese , a very high proportion died before the armistice. .

This is CC Hall, who I met as a photographic subject for my F****r "Portrait of a Stranger" project when at the Michelago Show. He is lead guitarist and singer for the Canberra band "The Bridge Between" . I'd describe their style as R&B (not sure if that's the term they'd use), but you can make up your own mind by listening here: www.thebridgebetween.com.au/Listen.html *EDIT* See below, the musical genre has now been ID'd as Blues/Rock.
Uploaded for the January 2014 monthly comp for the Prime lenses (fixed focal length) group.
Getting them out

When the blizzard was over, it was necessary to clear the snow from the tractors and sledges. Fortunately, on our way south, we had left our third tractor at a depot not far away, so it was possible to go there with a Snowtrac and retrieve it - checking a safe route and returning very carefully. The first tractor was relatively easy to extract, the "sideways" one proved a problem. First (as above) we tried lifting it sideways with two tractors, using steel cables and bridging timbers: all we achieved was to shake the tractor further down the slot while breaking cables and chains.
Goodbye Rachel: Macquarie Island 1968

"Rachel" was the name given to the ancient (WW2 vintage) AA3 Mk VII anti-aircraft radar that had been used to track weather balloons at Macquarie Island since (I think) 1953. She lived in a small hut, to give some weather protection, with a radome above. One of our first tasks was to dismantle the hut and decommission her, to be replaced with a new WF2 radar.
