I won't claim this is my best bird image, but I was delighted to capture this long range shot of an uncommon Rose Robin. A few words of clarification are needed here. The birds in Australia known as "Robins" (there is a range of about 15 species in the family) were given that name by the European colonists because they are small birds with coloured fronts. They are unrelated to and totally different from the European Robins - putting it in ornithological terms, in Australia they are from the Petroica family, those in Europe are Erithacus rubecela .

Something slightly different from our former rural property. This handsome fellow is a Flame Robin, about the size of a sparrow and native to south eastern Australia. More images in PiPs. For some reason he was intent on coming inside the house; these photos were taken through the window, which he later tried to push through!
