Bayside beach

16 Jun 2021 25 23 269
Today I joined some friends for a bushwalk, which first took us along the shore of Batemans Bay. While there had been bright sunshine, cloud cover was increasing, as can be seen here. This looks best viewed large.

Bridge at night

19 Nov 2019 37 27 457
This image of the old bridge was taken about half an hour before the arrival of the first construction barge to begin work on the new bridge. It is currently not possible to access this spot on the river bank and the new bridge construction works have totally changed the scene. Best viewed large on black. Explored.

With the tide

03 Oct 2015 30 17 943
With some friends, I had an enjoyable morning kayaking up a local creek on the incoming tide - then back out when the tide changed. Second shot in the note. Here's a music link. We shall be away travelling for the next few weeks (not in kayaks) :-), so my visits here will be occasional (if at all) though I may pre-load some shots to post along the way. Best wishes everyone, enjoy yourselves.

The Royal Colony (or is that Chateau?)

30 Oct 2013 4 3 521
The breeding colony of the Royal Penguins, a hundred or so metres inland from Sandy Bay. Parks Tasmania have constructed a walkway for tourists (this is the only place on the island, apart from the station area, where tourists are permitted). Note especially the tremendous devastation of dead and dying vegetation as a result of the massive rabbit infestation at that time (Dec 2005).

Penguin Highway

30 Oct 2013 2 2 473
This little creek, at Sandy Bay on Macquarie Island, is the main access route between the beach and the breeding colony a little inland. There is a busy and constant two way traffic, interrupted sometimes by arguments over who infringed the traffic rules!

Pelican reflections

Where there are fish in Australia, there almost certainly are Australian Pelicans! Another shot copied across from the other site.

Waterspout at Batemans Bay

27 May 2013 32 21 1568
This waterspout developed in unstable weather ahead of an approaching cold front. It was maybe 2km offshore and caused understandable excitement. Explored.
