I won't claim this is my best bird image, but I was delighted to capture this long range shot of an uncommon Rose Robin. A few words of clarification are needed here. The birds in Australia known as "Robins" (there is a range of about 15 species in the family) were given that name by the European colonists because they are small birds with coloured fronts. They are unrelated to and totally different from the European Robins - putting it in ornithological terms, in Australia they are from the Petroica family, those in Europe are Erithacus rubecela .

Loud "Cheep, cheep, cheep" noises led me to investigate this banksia tree. There I found two young Brush Wattlebirds, obviously on their first test flights, with an anxious mother fluttering around keeping watch. Best on black (press 'Z').
