Seeing this double rainbow was probably the ultimate highlight for me of the dawn aircraft trip over the Simpson Desert. Second image in the PiP taken a few minutes later, after a slight change of course. Note also cloud shadows on the desert.

A double rainbow at sunset, to complete the year 2017. (OK, I took it one year earlier.) :-) A rainbow is usually taken to signify hope: let's hope that 2018 turns out to be one of the better years. And may you all find the pot of gold which, supposedly, is hidden at each end. This message in the IMA Team Blog also is worth reading.

The Southern Ocean is usually too cloudy for rainbows. Just briefly the sun broke through and I watched a circling Royal Albatross, hoping that it would pass through the rainbow. Eventually it did, though away from me (see note). Then, to my delight, it turned back. Explored.
