Relaxing

06 Mar 2025 21 20 68
I'm having a quiet night, relaxing and enjoying this lovely bottle of 2006 Shiraz, from a favourite winery, that I found packed away when I shifted residence recently . Even better, I understand it's Thirsty Thursday today.

The fence on the wall

01 Mar 2024 27 25 198
On Wednesday I posted an image of a retaining wall for the Wednesday Wall group. This is the fence that sits above that wall (visible, in part, at lower right). Background info: The wall is a retaining wall for terracing between two properties - from the upper property only the fence is visible. Happy Fence Friday and have a great weekend, everyone.

Rose for Thursday

Playing around in the garden with an old lens.

A small coin

06 Dec 2020 27 13 264
Singapore 10 cent piece, about 15mm across. This was intended for the Macro Monday group before the recent problems with ipernity, the theme "This time it should be a close-up (macro) of the number 10". Better late than never I guess! I've just bought some extension tubes to play around with, this was taken with an old manual 50mm lens.

Poor old Fred

'Fred' is a wild Crimson Rosella, who has become tame and has trained me to feed him when he arrives and sings for a meal of grains. Unfortunately for him, it's the mating season for birds and he's just too old to compete for a companion - as is shown by the chewed feathers (also those on top of his head, which is why he appears to have a parting). Explored.

This way ...

Inspired by energetic mountain climbers on this site, I decided to tackle the demanding climb to Mt Crozier in the Murray-Sunset National Park. The challenge will be obvious from the accompanying images of the route and view from the top! HFF and have a great weekend, everyone. Here's. a suitable musical link . Explored.

Now that's a climb!

The demanding route up Mt Crozier. Height 109M, way above the surrounding country which is typically only about 45M. :-)

Salt museum

14 Oct 2017 8 4 511
This is (rather laughingly) called a "museum" of equipment from the old salt extraction works which operated at the Pink Lakes from 1916 until the 1970s. In the background is a pile of salt, extracted but left behind when the operations ceased.

Once was

14 Oct 2017 12 14 806
The remains of the Salt Town. Salt harvesting at the Pink Lakes began in 1916 and a small town with a school was here in the 1920s and 1930s. At first salt was taken out by camel trains (the image in the note appears to have been taken on a picnic day), then briefly by an unsuccessful tramway, before trucks took over. Salt extraction finished in the 1970s, after some some 60 years of operations.

Across the lake

Across one of the Pink Lakes. The water is extremely saline (up to 800 times that of sea water) and home only to an algae which coats itself in pink extrusions to protect itself from the sunlight.

Three satellites

11 Jun 2017 19 10 738
From the heavens-above.com website I found that two Iridium satellites were to pass over us through the Southern Cross constellation. I wonder if this would be called a "double crossing"? :-) The third satellite was an unexpected bonus. One to view large.
