Cape Brett Lighthouse

15 Jun 2024 21 17 186
This lighthouse is automated, as is now standard. It is not open to the public, though the former lightkeeper's house is being restored, I gather for holiday rentals. I also found the former landing and resupply jetty interesting (see PiP).

Sea Cliff Bridge

16 Jun 2022 36 27 232
This bridge is well known (at least in Australia). Yes, there's a fence too, though you will have to enlarge to see it. It's more visible in the PiP, taken on the bridge. I expect I'll be largely offline for a while as I shall be travelling. For now, all my best wishes for a very Happy Fence Friday and a great weekend, everyone.

Coast sunset

13 Apr 2019 37 22 536
I was delighted with the sunset as I walked along the clifftops near St Ives. Best viewed large. Explored.

Walking the escarpment

11 Apr 2019 41 36 516
Along the Cornwall escarpment near St Ives at sunset. HFF and have a great weekend, everyone. Explored.

Along the coast

28 Mar 2018 36 28 636
Big cliffs, big waves - to the right is the Southern Ocean and the next land in that direction is Antarctica! I'd suggest viewing large, maybe while listening to this. Explored.

Big and bare

19 Mar 2018 21 16 533
Best viewed large. The countryside here is big and bare - the rainfall is only about 380mm (15 inches non-metric). I'm fairly sure the greenery is a form of saltbush. Explored.

Late sunset

07 Mar 2018 21 20 626
Colours along the coast, with the sunset fading.

The northern cliffs

23 May 2017 12 8 671
The northern end of Lord Howe Island is fronted by cliffs over 200 metres high. (Second image in note).

Evening at Yellow Rocks

16 Oct 2016 31 24 651
Best viewed large. Explored.

And when it rains...

30 Jan 2016 42 21 702
Milford Sound on a rainy day - and suddenly, waterfalls began to cascade down vertical rock faces in all directions. Best viewed large.

A foggy day

27 Dec 2015 46 36 912
Back on the west coast of New Zealand's south island. This musical link at least matches the weather. Explored.

Dog teams on the sea ice

09 Aug 2013 436
From one of the gritty "home developed" Ektachrome slides taken in 1966. Out on the sea ice among the islands near Mawson, for a practice run with the dog teams.

Macquarie Island 1968: Hurd Point

12 Feb 2013 1 381
From an old slide. From a hundred or so metres up the side of the escarpment, on the climb out from Hurd Point at the south of Macquarie Island. Unfortunately it was winter, in the summer months those beaches are packed with one of the world's largest penguin colonies (nearly a million Royal Penguins). To give a scale, the tiny dots on the lower RHS near my ID are elephant seals, several metres long.
