Wollemi and water

17 Nov 2024 31 20 167
For Macro Mondays weekly project No 388: theme "Leaf of my favourite tree". This was taken just after a shower of rain left some water droplets. The Wollemi is a fascinating Australian tree. Rare in nature (fewer than 100 in a National Park),These trees were first discovered as recently as 1994 only about 150km from the city of Sydney, having previously been known only as fossils - some dating back 200M years! The most recent known fossil was 4M years old. To help preserve these trees, they have since been grown and sold extensively. I have previously posted photos of this tree here.

Part of the beautifully landscaped grounds of the Westbrook Vineyard and Winery, not far from Auckland. The wine I sampled there was also very tasty. Wishing everyone a Happy Fence Friday and a great weekend to follow.

Auckland autumn

19 May 2024 20 22 238
A misty morning in Auckland, viewed from a hotel window. The trees in the park are of European origin - as in Australia, the native New Zealand trees are not deciduous. Happy Bench Monday and best wishes for the coming week, everyone.

Autumn leaves

Heading back from travels (home soon) and these autumn leaves were striking. There had been others earlier, but not quite as well preserved. The high ISO and shutter speed were to compensate for a bouncing moving vehicle. It's near the end of another week, so I'll wish everyone a Happy Fence Friday and a great weekend to follow.

It's autumn here

Australian trees are evergreens and don't show autumn tones. Most deciduous trees have been planted in the cooler mountain areas, so it was a pleasant surprise to find these in their full autumn tonings.

Our camellias are in flower (see also PiP), with petals falling all around creating a white carpet. HFF, stay safe and have a great weekend, everyone.

Fallen leaves

Although our native trees (with very rare exceptions) are not deciduous, many gardens in the southern parts of Australia have some (imported) deciduous trees. Taken while I was cleaning up leaves. Here's the obvious musical link.

Poincianas

Many of these lovely tropical street trees around Brisbane, and they are in flower for our visit. It's a long time since I'd heard this song by Caterina Valente, but it's just as good as ever. Explored.

It's a while since I posted an orb. This is based on the leaves of our little potted Japanese Maple, currently all colour as winter rolls in. Try this for a musical link. Explored.

Autumn's here

Through most of Australia, the evergreen vegetation changes little with the seasons. We've had a few recent trips into the mountains, where introduced trees are showing vivid autumn colours. Explored.

Raining today. This shot seemed appropriate as my first on ipernity.com, given my disappointment with Flickr at present. RMC Tokina 400/5.6
