Black Kites were common while far inland, usually circling in groups over some food source. More images in the PiPs. Despite the name, these seem to be mainly a russet colour. They have a wingspan of about 52cm.

This is a Whistling Kite, a species of raptor to be found across Australia. This one kindly flew by several times, allowing me to get these images, which show their distinctive wing markings.

The markings, especially the white patches on the wings, indicate that this is a juvenile White-breasted Sea Eagle. When adult, these birds are pale grey and white (see PiP) and they are found around the coasts of Australia.

At present my photography is occasional at best, but when our local White-breasted Sea Eagle came circling overhead I had to rush for the camera and grab some quick shots (more in PiPs). These are found around the entire Australian coastline. Explored.

Very shortly after I post this, we'll be on our way. First stop is Singapore, then onward to England (briefly) before heading across to Norway for a Hurtigruten trip before returning to Oz via Oslo and Copenhagen. We rarely see Wedge-tailed Eagles where I live, so it was a delight to see a pair circling overhead (also interacting - see PiP) while I actually had a camera with me. There's only one possible musical link and, in the clip, you'll see more of these great birds (though, sadly, in captivity). Explored.

Dawn breaking over the Southern Alps in New Zealand, as we leave on an early flight. For a musical link, this is the obvious choice.

When I came to this site from F*r, I copied several albums across - but somehow I left many images on "private view" and not public. Time to fill the gaps! The Ryan STM trainer is just so evocative of the 1930s style. This musical link matches pretty well, even if it is from a slightly later period.
