The breeding colony of the Royal Penguins, a hundred or so metres inland from Sandy Bay. Parks Tasmania have constructed a walkway for tourists (this is the only place on the island, apart from the station area, where tourists are permitted). Note especially the tremendous devastation of dead and dying vegetation as a result of the massive rabbit infestation at that time (Dec 2005).

This little creek, at Sandy Bay on Macquarie Island, is the main access route between the beach and the breeding colony a little inland. There is a busy and constant two way traffic, interrupted sometimes by arguments over who infringed the traffic rules!

Without doubt, these really deserve their title. Very majestic birds indeed and, as can be seen, regally dressed.

WWII vintage Tiger Moth training aircraft being refuelled. This aircraft was actually based at Temora during the war, when it was a training aerodrome.

When I came to this site from F*r, I copied several albums across - but somehow I left many images on "private view" and not public. Time to fill the gaps! The Ryan STM trainer is just so evocative of the 1930s style. This musical link matches pretty well, even if it is from a slightly later period.

This Peregrine Falcon, with its clutch of eggs, was on the cliff face below me as I peered down into "The Big Hole" , a very substantial (80M across, 100M deep) sinkhole in a local National Park.
