From the viewing platform

21 Oct 2021 48 52 376
This panoramic view of Uluru and the distant Kata Tjuta was taken from a viewing platform sited to give a good sunrise view of them both - I'd have to admit somewhat after sunrise here! Best viewed large on black. Another week almost gone, so it's time to wish everyone a very Happy Fence Friday and I hope you all have a great weekend to follow.

Lookout panorama

05 Sep 2020 25 19 244
Stitched panorama of the view from the lookout in the Jerrawangala National Park. Although the intensity of the fires varied depending on the ground slope and winds, almost the entire forested area in this image was burnt in the bushfires of late 2019 / early 2020. I have added a note to an area which appears more badly burnt. Needs to be viewed large.

Let's go to the beach

23 Apr 2020 46 48 384
Stitched panorama of a sunny day with a cold front coming up the coast. One to view large. HFF, stay safe and have a great weekend everyone.

From the lighthouse

17 Jan 2019 39 29 439
The view from the Montague Island lighthouse. This stitched panorama looks north across the island and shows the two different types of geology - granite nearby and basalt on the more distant section. The tern colony (previous images) is visible on the adjacent rocky areas. Definitely one to view large. HFF and have a great weekend, everyone.

Araluen Valley

08 Nov 2018 26 27 541
A very wide (180 degree) panorama of the Araluen Valley and its surrounds. When the bushrangers visited this area (see PiP/previous image), they retreated back into the hills in the centre. View large. HFF and have a great weekend. Explored.

The view

19 Jul 2018 8 3 349
Stitched panorama of the view from the lookout, across Coffs Harbour and the coast. One to view large.

My first Milky Way bow

07 May 2018 43 69 726
Six stitched images (vertical format) were needed to make this (about 180 degree) panorama of the Milky Way. In the middle of the bow are the Magellanic Clouds, two small satellite galaxies. Out on the right, a little evening mist is beginning to cover the lights of the local town. One to view large, maybe while listening to this. Explored.

Sunset Panorama

02 May 2018 29 31 631
There were some spectacular sunsets during our stay in South Australia. A stitched panorama was needed to capture this one. Definitely best viewed large. Explored.

From Intermediate Hill

14 May 2017 19 12 650
You just have to be impressed by the originality of place names like "Intermediate Hill" ! Either way, it's about half way along the island (it's the hill at the left of my previous image) and this is a stitched panorama of the view, covering about 180 degrees and the length of the island. It gives a good view of the lagoon and the coral barrier reef. The island is about 80% covered in natural forest. View large.

Southern sky

26 Mar 2017 23 21 803
A merged panorama of the southern sky, images taken using the Astrotracer facility on the Pentax K-1. Some details in notes. This really does need to be viewed large on black. Explored. Here's a suitable musical link.

Evening city lights

15 Mar 2017 29 16 722
Merged evening panorama of Brisbane. Not much of a sunset, but the lights made up for it. It's some years since I visited the city and I can't get over how much the buildings have grown - the bridge and City Hall (now lost among the giants) were once the tallest. Best viewed large. Explored. Spread the news: www.ipernity.com/group/2260604/discuss/186760

The telescope

06 Mar 2017 9 5 545
The Australian Astronomical Observatory has a 3.9 metre mirror. It is a very substantial instrument (see the technician on the balcony doing maintenance) and needed a stitch of two images to fit it into this image.

Transportation

04 Nov 2015 27 13 684
The very newly completed Christchurch bus interchange. Panorama image, view large. Explored.

Contented calves

02 Oct 2015 17 19 787
Stitched panorama on our former rural property, "Tiabunna" . Calving was timed for late winter, so the calves would be old enough to digest the new grass that began appearing in September. View large. HFF.

Entering Captains Flat

17 Feb 2015 23 22 716
The road leading into Captains Flat winds past the old mine working area. Stitched panorama, best viewed large on black. Explored.

Sunset panorama

24 Aug 2014 28 16 698
Better on black? Explored.

Nearing Mannahill

02 Aug 2014 19 22 779
The Barrier Highway, linking Broken Hill to the coast, largely follows the railway line. Far out in nowhere is the tiny rail settlement of Mannahill - a welcome stopping point in the vastness. View on black.

Panorama at Dumont d'Urville

25 Jan 2014 8 10 685
The French antarctic base of Dumont d'Urville is situated on a series of rocky islands. There are thousands of nesting Adelie penguins in the surrounding area. This panorama was taken looking westward along the coast from near the station, which is to the right. The note has a larger version of the image. Use the 'satellite view' if looking at the location.
