Our local Australian Wood Duck (Chenonetta jubata) family. These goose-like ducks are the only web-footed bird in Australia to nest in trees. The males (on the right) even have a mane.

I've finally caught up with our "local duck family", which neighbours had mentioned several times to me. These are Wood Ducks, common to much of Australia and nesting in the nearby park. They originally had seven chicks, but predators such as feral cats and foxes have reduced the family to five, all being closely monitored. See also the PiP. Best viewed large.

A pair of Wood Ducks, reasonably common across Australia. The male (left) has a mane while the female sports a pair of stripes above and below her eyes. Probably best viewed large to see those details.
Explored.

A family of these ducks came visiting from the nearby nature reserve. The colour indicates that these are two males. The PiP has an image (at the right) of the female for comparison.
