Sunrise from the patio

18 Oct 2024 30 27 209
I still have very limited internet from my new home, so I do apologise for not being more active on ipernity of late. Hopefully this soon will be rectified. Best viewed on black. This is today's sunrise from my new patio, much the same view as in last Friday's image. Happy Fence Friday and have a great weekend, everyone.

Campground dawn

05 Sep 2023 23 18 272
A very pleasant dawn over the camping ground in Boulia, outback Queensland. Best viewed on black.

The sun's up in the outback

08 Aug 2023 24 16 187
Arriving in the light aircraft over Lake Machattie as the sun rose, then crossing the lake and seeing the river floodwaters (from rains hundreds of km further north, nearly two months earlier) coming into the lake. (See also PiPs). Here's a suitable musical link.

Claypan at sunrise

02 Aug 2023 27 22 262
The light coloured area toward the horizon is the Bilpa Morea Claypan, apparently the world's largest claypan. Best viewed large. The light aircraft is still heading north as the sun rises (see the PiP for an image a few minutes earlier).

Past the Diamantina

01 Aug 2023 18 12 188
The Diamantina River is one of the major (usually not flowing) rivers of outback Queensland, eventually finding its way to Lake Eyre. Taken on the light aircraft dawn flight from Birdsville.with some light rain showers in the distance as the sun rises.

Past Birdsville Racecourse

01 Aug 2023 18 15 186
On the dawn flight in the Cessna, heading out of Birdsville and past the Birdsville Racecourse at about 1500 ft. The annual race meeting is a major outback event. That's the Diamantina River (also in the PiP).

Sydney Sunrise

29 Mar 2023 32 28 260
Taken with a camera borrowed from a friend, shortly before a kayak trip on Sydney Harbour. Despite the slight blur (slow shutter) I think this still looks good viewed large.

Kiama sunrise

10 Nov 2022 62 46 404
Sunrise over the harbour in Kiama, New South Wales. Just so I can verify that I do (occasionally) rise early. :-) Wishing everyone a Happy Fence Friday and a great weekend to follow.

Perth sunrise

03 Sep 2022 35 23 283
Perth sunrise viewed from the hotel where I stayed, part of the Swan River at right. Good on black.

'The Gong' beach and fence

14 Apr 2022 29 27 262
As I noted with my previous posting, Wollongong is often known locally as "The Gong". This is the main Wollongong beach at dawn, looking southward toward Port Kembla. In the surf behind the fence, there are a number of early morning surfers and a fishing boat at far left (viewing large may be helpful). Happy Fence Friday and best wishes for the weekend, everyone.

Sunrise at 'The Gong'

13 Apr 2022 35 24 317
Just to prove that (very occasionally) I do rise early enough to take sunrise images. This is part of the harbour breakwater at Wollongong (often known by locals simply as "The Gong").

Tranquil dawn

21 Jan 2020 46 41 487
I have to admit that it's rare for me to take sunrise images. :-) This is our local estuary and, I would suggest, is best viewed large.

The mast

22 Aug 2019 35 27 501
Directly in the light of the rising sun, a mast is visible near the horizon. I'll admit that it looks pretty much like any other mast, but for me it was one of the highlights of our trip. "Why?" I hear you ask. It was from that mast, in 1926, that the airship Norge departed to make the first ever aircraft flight to the North Pole and also the first flight over the ice cap between Europe and North America. Best viewed large. Fenced fish farms in the foreground - Norway seems to have fish farms everywhere! HFF and have a great weekend, everyone. My involvement on ipernity is limited at present, so my apologies if I do not respond to your comments or visit your images - I shall try to do so as far as possible.

Rare sunrise

07 Mar 2015 66 39 1067
I know sunrises are common: but it's a rarity for me to be up to record one. :-) A music link to go with it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXGfcxJNA1A Explored.

Mallacoota Sunrise

22 Mar 2014 34 34 869
Sunrises usually are at the wrong end of the day for me. :) Maybe view on black? Explored.

Sunrise

27 Aug 2013 11 10 651
Just to show that I have been known to rise early enough for a sunrise shot. :)

Grampians Sunrise

11 Jul 2013 11 5 803
Stitched panorama. Mouse over left peak to see as large. Explored.

Macquarie Island 1968: Magical Sunrise

07 Jul 2013 6 5 649
From an old slide. Scenes such as this are quite uncommon, though typically the east coast is calmer than the west. Usually the Southern Ocean is rough, the wind strong and accompanied by rain and/or fog, which makes the rare good sunrise feel absolutely magical. Slide taken with Minolta SR1 and Rokkor 35mm lens.
