Little visitor

06 Nov 2018 38 33 839
I was delighted to find this little visitor in our garden today. It is an Eastern Dwarf Tree Frog and only about 20mm long. Interestingly, this was further south than the reference suggests it should be found. This has to be the link. I think Pam would enjoy this too! Explored.

In the forests #2

21 May 2017 9 7 485
The forests of Lord Howe Island have a high proportion of palms. If you are familiar with indoor potted palms, the chances are they are Kentia Palms, such as these, originally from Lord Howe and now found worldwide indoors.

Marching through the forest

In the untouched native forests on Lord Howe Island. Palms and pandanus.

Currently blooming in our garden. Best viewed large (but aren't most images?).

Something different

10 Oct 2016 17 17 510
A hand-made crocheted turtle stuffed toy, created by my talented wife. :-) Explored.

The cyclist

16 May 2016 13 22 518
Complete with "anti-diving-bird" headgear. As an aside, my desktop computer is having problems at present with ipernity (I couldn't add the title or this note, though the laptop seems ok). So, is anyone else having problems or is it just my old and tired computer with maybe a software issue? Explored.

Sailing the Sounds

Beachside hut in the Marlborough Sounds, seen while on a very pleasant day's cruising. HFF.

Watching

11 Sep 2015 20 14 702
Some horsey interest in a wandering photographer trying to capture a former country church. Best viewed large and more shots in notes. HFF

The Kings

14 Jun 2015 42 19 792
A pair of King Parrots, the female nearest (no, she does not become a queen). A short while previously she appeared to have reprimanded her more colourful partner for having too much seed on his beak (see note). These are wild birds at our feeder. Here's a musical link - a little tenuous, I admit. :-) Explored.

The green giant

31 May 2015 36 22 792
Well, it was about 80mm long! I'm fairly sure it is the caterpillar stage of a Hawk Moth, found from China through SE Asia and India down to southern Australia. Musical link here. Try viewing it large. Explored.

Green Antarctica

23 Jan 2014 6 5 506
Plant life is remarkably resilient. It can be found growing even in the permanent cold of Antarctica in the form of lichens and mosses, such as this. On the right is a section of Adelie penguin egg shell. Contact with moss, such as this, probably explains the green stain on the penguin seen in the note.
