Get out of the way! Road train #3

09 Sep 2023 28 21 229
The dust in my previous image was from vehicles travelling in the same direction as us. When it's coming the other way, be sure it's not a Road Train as they have right of way - and use it! On a narrow unsealed road, that means pulling over and stopping. View large for maximum impact.

VIPER - Road Train #2

02 Sep 2023 26 18 184
A short while ago I posted an image of a Road Train. Here's another - and more to come later. :-) When driving in Australia's ''outback', you almost certainly will encounter 'Road Trains'. The important point is that the roads in remote areas are narrow and these have the right of way - they use the whole road and other vehicles must pull off the side as they pass. View large for the best impression.

Knot clean

For Macro Mondays Group, topic 244, 14 February 2022, set subject: "Knots". I found this piece of knotted cord in my workshop. Looking at it in macro, I can see that it's knot very clean. :-)

Fires again

23 Jan 2020 30 33 486
Today's weather totally negated the rain of a few days ago, with temperatures over 40C and winds running at about 60kph, gusting higher. Needless to say, the fires which had been contained started running again. This image was taken en route to an appointment today with Pauline's oncologist. When we reached the hospital (about 1km beyond those central trees) we were told it had been evacuated because of that fire coming from the right - appointment off. The fires now have covered a huge local area in total (see PiP1 in which the scale at lower left covers 10km). The second PiP shows, at left, the C130 Large Air Tanker which crashed today while fire fighting to the west of here, killing its crew. There also have been a number of houses lost today. Sorry, I'm feeling pretty down at present and I can't bring myself to put up a HFF image this week.

After the mud storm

13 Feb 2019 18 11 530
Strong winds over eastern Australia carried a thick dust storm to our area from inland drought stricken regions. Then, overnight, a cold front brought a passing shower of rain - and we had a mud storm as the dust was caught by the raindrops! This is the result. Uploaded mainly for interest. Explored.
