Middleton Hotel

19 Sep 2023 30 23 195
Middleton was the middle one of nine horse changing stations for stagecoaches on the run between Winton and Boulia - a 384 km trip then taking four days. Nothing remains of the other eight coach stations, making this one of the most isolated pubs in Queensland. The coach run here operated until somewhere between 1915 and 1920 and at that time Middleton had a school, police station, store and community hall. Only the pub still operates.

Betoota benches

16 Jul 2023 26 25 271
Betoota is a ghost town in western Queensland, with a permanent population of nil, but it does have a (restored) pub and a racetrack. The satirical online newspaper, the "Betoota Advocate" claims to originate here as "Australia's oldest newspaper". See also PiPs. Betoota is now a "must visit" for travellers and not only is the pub busy, but it has benches outside for those wishing to be in the sunshine. With that thought, I'll wish everyone a very Happy Bench Monday and a good week to follow.

Time for a Fourex

XXXX is a well known beer in Australia and this pub in Windorah was an ideal place to enjoy a few. Care to join me on a bench for a beer? HBM and have a good week, everyone.

Adnate Mural

10 Sep 2022 26 18 292
There's an Australian hotel chain adding murals to their buildings, in this case giving the hotel the name of the artist - Tim Adnate. The 25 storey mural is one of the world's largest - you can read more about it here.

Too early!

Back to my images from our recent visit to England. Taken at The Tinners' Arms in Zennor, as recommended by Andy Rodker for a visit. Unfortunately we arrived before they opened and had to keep moving along.

In Mintaro

08 Sep 2015 25 19 561
Mintaro, in South Australia, is only a small village and dates from 1851 when a slate mine opened there. It now houses a fine winery and restaurant, apart from the old pub. Explored.
