the church was of course locked, and in common with most london c. of e. churches there was no information about access times or keyholders. this shot through glazed doors shows the stiffleaf capitals of manning's 1870s arcades, as well as lots of modern clutter. the whitewash dates from vicar percy dearmer's liturgical desire for simple numinous spaces for worship: what he'd make of all the notices and boards I think we can guess. the speakers are also unspeakable, why do modern church communities so often give the impression that they'd be happier with some soulless hall rather than the aesthetic masterpieces that they inhabit like rats in roman ruins.
