two circular moated forts were built on islands in the river medway in the 1860s, here seen from hoo church tower. both remain remarkably complete though difficult to access. being still owned by the ministry of defence, trying to get into hoo is still illegal, probably for legal or health and safety reasons; it can't be to protect the building, as they've tested explosives here in the past bringing a floor down.

two circular moated forts were built on islands in the river medway in the 1860s, here seen from hoo church tower. both remain remarkably complete though almost inaccessible as the moats have been allowed to flood the fort; if you take a canoe you might get in.the medway port authority owns darnet, keeping people out to stop vandals, though it's difficult to see how anyone could damage this.

two circular moated forts were built on islands in the river medway in the 1860s, here seen from hoo church tower. both remain remarkably complete though almost inaccessible. like many of these forts, the weight of guns and granite were a problem, causing foundations to sink into the marshy ground, so these buildings are unlikely to be turned into hotels or shopping malls anytime soon.
