the small much rebuilt priory church was flattened in the war, then the site sliced into by the new blackwall tunnel aproach roads. the graveyard is now a filthy overgrown dump, with few half buried tombs remaining

chunk of carved stone in graveyard, carved with scrolls, seemingly with stubs of mullions above and below. possibly from a great hall oriel ? now in graveyard on site of nave of blackfriars church, next to the north-south church entry, which was the walking place between the nave and choir of the friars church. their chancel became the church of st. ann, but was destroyed in 1666.

there are plenty of late c18/ early c19 table tombs in hackney's campo santo, which was walled in 1707 and given avenues of trees in 1797 by harry sedgewick. burials stopped in 1859, and the tombs were shifted about the large l-shaped graveyard around the old tower and the new church in 1893

there are plenty of late c18/ early c19 table tombs in hackney's campo santo, including builders and protectors of empire; in these rows there are soldiers and sailors, merchants and civil servants; there is even one of the first governors of australia , as well as plenty of people who benefitted from the increased opportunities such an empire gave, not just to bigwigs but also to the ordinary man. of course, lots of people are remembered here who died there; an awful lot of people died in the empire or colonies, or even on the way there . the call of adventure and a better life was just as strong back then as it is for many immigrants today, sometimes, you just have to take risks.
