built 1914-15 by e.m.joseph as a replacement for the great st.helen's synagogue in the city, itself a rebuild of the 1760 leadenhall synagogue in the city. parts of the design of the c18 building travelled here as well as several fittings, though whilst the portico looks georgian it's probably early c20.
