terracotta bust made c.1498, probably by guido mazzoni, believed to be a young henry VIII. stylistically akin to mazzoni's work, its date is a guess based on the belief that this is indeed henry aged 7. guido died in 1518, and was in paris working on the french king's tomb in the 1490s, putting in a bid on doing henry VII's tomb at that time. however, henry's older brother arthur tudor would have been 7 in 1493, so even if its provenance and the richness of the clothing imply a royal english prince, could it not have been either henry or arthur ?

posthumous marble bust of c.1700 by jan blommendael. note the odd assymetrical hairstyle, fashionably much longer on the left, as seen in the famous triple portrait done to allow bernini to carve a bust.; this particular bust may have been influenced by a drawing of bernini's carving, destroyed in the whitehall fire.

bronze bust of c.1590 by germain pilon of the french queen; some of the current english queen's vast hoard of booty that she lets us pay to see occasionally. noblesse oblige, eh ?
