the early c18 reredos was carved by the king's carver at the royal dockyard, joseph wade; copies of paintings were added c.1876 by florence nicholson for butterfield's restoration: he provided the new setting and altar.

painted panel on front of lady chapel altar, added in 1900. the original beaten metal panel is missing, perhaps stolen? and others damaged; it looks like the altar was originally painted, then received metal panels soon afterwards.

this altar is said to have been a tomb chest from one of the demolished chantry chapels at salisbury, I've seen the hungerford mentioned somewhere. however, it's not like any of the tombs shown in the pre-demolition drawings of the chapels that I can find, so who knows. it is hollow, and only has three sides, incomplete at that. it's prob. early c15.
