this is supposedly the original purbeck font of c.1200, but looks to have been recut and polished in modern times

view through the c13 north arcade to the c12 piers and c13 arches of the south. it seems that the north arcade is actually a recycled norman arcade that was originally to the south of the south aisle, that having formed the nave once. many of the simple pews are of c.1500.

the south arcade has mid c12 piers, the arches above having been made pointed in the early c13. the chancel arch has gone, probably in the middle ages, the chancel was rebuilt in 1396.

junction of the c13 north nave arcade to the left with the c16 chancel arcade, a collision not just at the apex of the arch, but also running through this pier, where the mouldings don't match on capital or base. perhaps all of this was hidden by the rood screen and loft.

built in 1427, almost 60 metres long, this aisled barn is double framed with purlins and small half hipped ends. the main posts sit on reigate stone blocks, but the sleeper walls are all masses of the local iron bound conglomerate known as ferricrete, which occurs naturally in the nearby gravel beds. a spectacular construction.
