statue of john hunter by weeks, 1864. hunter was the comparative anatomist whose collection of human and animal specimens forms the basis of the hunter collection here, open to the public.

built 1835-6 by barry, using dance's 1806 portico but jazzing it up a bit ; in 1888 salter added the unfortunate upper floors and extended sideways too. in 1937 more damage was done with the end pavilions.
