tower built 1879 as the mausoleum for judge andrew paterson. his ashes were buried in the building at the base, and he'd wanted a perpetual light to shine from the top. his remains were removed to sway churchyard in the late c20 when the tower was sold. it is currently for sale

andrew peterson was a judge in calcutta, having taken up law after running away to sea in his youth. When he retired he began to build using rammed concrete and employing local labour at above the going rate. he built a house with a tower, then stables with another tower, and finally his mausoleum tower nearby in 1879
