one of the hidden courts off high holborn containing a hall of c.1422 built by a dean of lincoln, dressed in later brick over kentish rag, which became a lawyers' inn and in victorian times the school of the mercers' livery company. no longer scholastic, but still one of the many properties belonging to the mercers, and carrying their maid.
