The chapel of the almshouses of trinity hospital, founded by trinity house in 1695 for masters and commanders of ships, and their widows, a baroque oasis at the whitechapel end of mile end road. The chapel was gutted in the war, and statues have recently been removed from the front quadrangle. the crowned lion head guards the arms of william 3.
