view through blomfield's aisle of 1898 into very restored c13 chancel. this church was locked and no sign for the key, rare luckily in essex still. black mark, birchanger.
birchanger church, essex the best thing in this pleasantly situated but locked church is this early c12 south doorway, with scrolls around the arch and a lamb carved on the tympanum that is somewhat unsure of itself.

west end with early c12 doorway from north , moved when blomfield added the north aisle and bellcote in 1898. this church was locked and no notice about the key anywhere, luckily rare in essex so a black mark for birchanger.
