cast iron lamp post, originally for gas, now electric, if this dates from the period in the 1790s when saunders added the wings to this forecourt, it is a very early gas light indeed, as the first house to be lit by gas was c.1792 in redruth, and the first street was in london c.1798

n.e. wing added in 1793-6 by george saunders with one of the nice gas lamp posts that light the forecourt of the house. if this is contemporary with the house, it may well be one of the earliest of these anywhere.
