late c15 south porch and west tower of the church , with a fine if very restored display of flushwork . the interior doesn't really live up to this, and the rude, aggressive attitude of its mean minded wardens stopping photography with a hand over the lens does little to recommend this church to visitors.

north chancel aisle arch with central spandrel full of open tracery, c.1400, similar to some in luton. visitors should expect a large parish church rather than the cathedral that it is in name to avoid disappointment , though having a warden put his hand over my lens and shout at me rudely for taking photos one afternoon probably distorts my impressions of the place.

one of the better windows here is this early clayton and bell in the south choir aisle, on the parable of the good samaritan, dating from the period in the mid c19 when their use of strong design and colour was outstanding, see for example the plants in the foreground and the forceful diagonals. the panels are in the wrong order.

the south arcade was rebuilt by john johnson in 1801-3, and utilises coade stone. the clerstory and pretty roof is also by him. he was the county surveyor, and also built the shire hall and high bridge here, both of which have coade stone details too. this was the last photo that I was able to take here before a warden put his hand over the lens and told me that photography was not allowed in a rude and hysterical voice. a jumped-up and pusillanimous little man, dressed in a little brief authority.
