the church was rebuilt in 1611-14, and contains many tombs of the smith family of hill hall. not that you and I can see them: our heritage here has been privatised and the church is always locked, with no key available. that this is not a policy that safeguards churches can be seen in the fact that the door bears signs of having been broken into at least once recently.

jumbled coffins of the hill hall smiths in the c18? vault. the church is always locked, with no indication as to the whereabouts of a key. a black mark to all concerned in this meanspirited privatisation of our heritage.
