memorial to sir andrew riccard, 1672, attrib. to bushnell, a sculptor who always reminds me of alfred gilbert in his egotistic erratic brilliance ; when he was good he was superb, but often his work fails to catch fire. it's like he couldn't believe he could make a mistake, and soldiers on with works when he should have started afresh. this may have looked fine as a maquette, but I feel is rather a failure.

a really unusual memorial is that to john halsey, +1670, in the chancel. difficult to photo in daylight, this monument has been designed and carved with gusto, and I can well believe it to be by bushnell, an erratic genius who trained in venice - as he never stopped reminding people. it is almost the same design as his memorial to mrs. pepys at st.olave hart st. in london.
