late saxon ivory cross found in tombland in norwich, with the hand of god and the sun and moon over christ crucified, with the centurians longinus and stephaton.

saxon panel of c.780 found at larling, south norfolk. it shows the roman myth of romulus and remus suckled by a wolf, a motif used by king aethelberht on his coins. the king was murdered in 794 and became a saint, the church at larling bears his dedication, so this may have come from an allied cult object or book in the church there.

a bagpiper can be seen dancing in this detail of an ivory diptych of c.1300, made in paris, which shows the annunciation and nativity. it is now in the courtauld gallery in somerset house in london.
