this east facade is the most prominent part of the house to remain from nash's spectacular rebuilding project here in the 1790 and 1800s, the north front having mostly been demolished after structural failure due to his early use of cast iron.

nash rebuilt much of the old house in the late c18, but structural problems with his novel use of cast iron led to most of his work being demolished. this dairy cloister with the wall behind remain of his spectacular north front, though the windows have been much enlarged.
