the black hostelry, built into the infirmary arcade of c. 1180.until fairly recently this was a great b+b , a wonderful place to stay when visiting the cathedral , an architectural palimpsest overwritten many times. you could taste the history when you woke , up close and personal with these arches in your room, and seeing the octagon in the mist looming over you from your window I'll never forget.
