Mood and attitude are the two components that I try to convey with each image. In this image I have well achieved both. I especially am happy with the background which is an art piece created by my wife and artist Mary Bogdan. It is called "Playing Battle Dress Up." I don't want to take away any attention from my model, but the art behind her is one of Mary's most controversial pieces amongst many. She certainly makes us want to take a closer look. When writing about my photographs I often weave in and out between writing about my model specifically, women in general and my own point of view of women or my photography as the art form that I have chosen to portray my subjects in. One thing is usually obvious to most who view these photographs. And that is that I bestow the ultimate respect upon the women who have entrusted me with their vulnerability of nude or semi-nude posing. They have exposed themselves to my lens and have offered their ultimate expression of erotica. The intended pose as well as the resulting photograph, both are with an end to provoke and arouse the imagination of the viewer. Elise and I both hope that we have done justice to this mission. Spring has finally sprung. The streaming sun kept the room warm with natural heat, as Elise allowed her body to bask in it. I wasn't sure if this was a look of displeasure or was she just acting coy. We couldn't all go to the Chateau in the Bourgogne region. Some of us had to be left behind in Paris. A little shy, she clutched the pillows to her body so as to cover her nakedness, but still I could see that she was proud and took pleasure in her youthful beauty. I celebrate this new year of my life with the appearance of Camille in my stream. My artistic tribute to femininity. I feel very privileged to have had this visit from her on this bright sunny day. I took advantage of the streaming natural rays and avoided using any artificial supplementary lighting. Not my usual style of working. The experience was challenging, elating and of course delightful. Camille made it more so. A natural beauty, she is confident in her poses and an admirable artist and collaborator. This image is worth viewing large, of course. At this point I would also like to extend an invitation to all my contacts. As I have exceeded 6,000, I can no longer do it through Flickr's "invite" feature. They say it is too weak to handle such numbers. So here goes... At first I didn't think it would be too cool or modest of me to invite people to my own fan club. How self-indulgent this would appear. So I held off for as long as I could. But then Mary Bogdan, the creator of the group, artist extraordinaire and loving wife, said to me that I owe it to all my friends on Flickr and that who better to have access to my fans than myself? I thought and thought about it. I realized that as the group grows with friends that are on her and others' lists, the friends who I have selected or who have selected me and who may want to be in the group the most, cannot be ignored and left off the invited list. So here it is. An official invitation to join my fan club by me. Welcome one and all! Rightly or not, I think that I have come to the conclusion that much of the reason for our sexually uptight society is our religious institutions. We accept violence much more readily than sex. That is perhaps because the early wars were often due to religious differences, so it was necessary to accept violence in order to make holy war. Come to think of it, we still have holy war declarations today. Are we to accept these beliefs? Has nothing changed? On our trip we happened to attend Good Friday services at Notre Dame Cathedral. This was a wonderful photo opportunity and what better way to express the dichotomy of sex and religion. But I prefer to have this photograph viewed as an expression of reverence for the Sacred Feminine. Great photography requires dedication, time and effort. Today I have been un-NIPSA’d I was rather surprised to find out that I was NIPSA in the first place and requested an explanation since I have been moderating my photographs rather diligently. Well here was a surprise. They accused me of tag-spamming. That means that my tags were irrelevant to the images I was posting. Although it is true that I would mass tag in batches, so it wouldn’t be unusual for a tag here and there to be on a wrong photograph, but I never thought that would be a reason for NIPSA. Well, here it is. I was wrong. Anyway, I spent the better part of my free time this week on removing the tags that were assigned to too many photographs. I know I did remove many relevant ones, but I also managed to bring myself into the good graces of the Flickr Police. So now my images are all searchable, although mostly moderate or restricted. Art – restricted…. hmmm. This Sunday will be a photo exchange day between the members of my Photo Seminar Group. We are a group of avid photographers who meet once a month to discuss, critique and share ideas on the art of photography. Once a year, around Christmas time, we make the meeting more festive. We share some wine and food while discussing photography. Then we pick names and exchange photographs. It is a good way to build a photography collection. I think this year we will take the full two weeks off for our Christmas break. Lucky that the holidays fall on Tuesdays. Makes it all so convenient. I think this year we’ll try to make it down to New York City, again. We (Mary and I) love visiting the galleries in Chelsea at this time of year. Who am I kidding? We love visiting NYC any time of year. Almost forgot this photo of Isabella from a shoot last April. I keep coming back to these image files, finding them more and more inspiring every time. Lately I have been wondering if my work is making a difference in the world. I seek out beauty and truth. Of course I can only follow my own aesthetic, which is subjective. Truth is absolute. I believe that there is only the one. Unfortunately, it is subject to interpretation. As I saw within 3 minutes of the Republican debate in the race for party leadership, truth is quite illusive to men (and women) seeking power. This was the most pathetic group of uninspired and uninspiring individuals I have ever seen vying for this position. Not one ounce of charisma among them. I am not an American and I know very little about the details and facts pertaining to American politics, but I am a fairly good judge of character and I found not one of these men gave me a sense of strength of character. They were unsure about what they were saying. If I were a voter I would have a tough time. Unfortunately I had not seen the Democratic debate at all, so I cannot address it. The part I saw was when they were responding to the question about believing in the word of the Bible. It was so obvious to me that they were saying what would get them votes rather than saying what they really believe. Not a true conviction among them. I finally saw the movie “300”. Violence in abundance, but visually it was quite delightful. The story too, although quite simple, was interesting with some human values in heroism. The age old conflict between nations. Two (or more) camps of humans, each believing to be superior. Each trying to annihilate the other for the good of humanity. Kind of where we are today. Nothing changed in 3,000 (?) years. We humans are still trying to destroy each other. Nation against nation. It is the true definition of obscenity. And me, I am NIPSA’d by Flickr. What a sad joke! Isabella, with her super shoes, to the rescue. She looks quite proud to be wearing them. They are sexy. Can anyone really stand safely on such heels? Maybe that is why we see her sitting here. But no, really, she stands and walks with them quite well. It’s like I am describing a doll. She also speaks and moves. But here she sits and is looking quite lovely. When she poses for the camera, I sense a story going through her mind. She must be thinking of something that has made her feel emotion, desire, passion. Shoes?
