The B-29 was the first bomber with pressurized crew compartments. The were used primarily in the Pacific Theater where their long range was needed. Two B-29s, the Enola Gay and Bockscar , were the only aircraft to drop atomic weapons in wartime. This was in August 1945, precipitating Japan's surrender the following month. B-29s based on Okinawa and in Japan also served in the Korean War. This aircraft at Castle Air Museum was rebuilt from three derelict targets at China Lake. It carries the Korean War era markings of the 28th Bomb Squadron, 19th Bomb Group, based on Okinawa.
