The Thames Barrier is a movable flood barrier which has been in place since 1982. It stretches across the Thames from New Charlton on the left (south side), to Silvertown on the right bank.

The MV Royal Iris , an ex Mersey ferry. Seen beached by the side of the River Thames at New Charlton, just east of the Thames Flood Barrier and watching the sun go down. Apparently she is holed below the water line, half full of water and has been in this state since 2010. She was built at Dumbarton on the River Clyde at a cost of £256,000 and launched there in December 1950. Detail a little more evident when viewed large.

....a relatively new container port on the north bank of the River Thames in east Thurrock, Essex ~ some 30 miles from the centre of London. It completed its first full year of use in 2014.

I am a long way short of mastering hand-held night photography. But I gave it a go.... Slightly better on black
