The bee-like flies are called hover flies, flower flies, or syrphid flies. The plant is an ariocarpus fissuratus in my collection of succulent plants.

The fly is also called a flower fly or syrphid fly. Taken at the James D. Martin Wildlife Park, Gadsden, Alabama. This is a wetland area that is part of the Coosa River watershed. (DSC04443)
