Barred Owl

30 Jan 2011 210
This guy had been whoo whooing in my woods for several days. Usually all I ever see of it, is it swooping through the woods. I finally got lucky. I saw it land. It was quite far away, silhouetted against late afternoon sun, but my new Canon SX 30 IS with its 35x optical zoom proved its worth. Focused well through the trees, had good low light exposure, great image stabilization, and sufficient megapixels that I could crop it to this size. Good thing too, because he swooped off before I could take a second photo. (IMG_0500)

Water Artistry - What Do You See?

12 Nov 2011 229
I was taking pictures of leaves in the water and not paying attention to the reflections which turned out to be amazing. It looks like a lot of pencil drawings scribbled by an artist. I have made notes of what I see. Feel free to add a note if you see anything else. I bracketed the shot and in between each shot the water shifted, so all three shots have unique reflections some of which are also in my photostream. Taken at the James D. Martin Wildife Park, Gadsden, Alabama - a wetland that is part of the Coosa River watershed. (IMG_9194)
