Eastern Phoebe Nest with Five Eggs

These eggs are from the phoebes' second clutch of the year. This nest is on the turn of a downspout right next to my garage door. The phoebes seem unperturbed by the frequent noise and traffic passing underneath every day because they used the same nest last year. I saw five fledglings in the first clutch so the phoebes have been busy birds. Etowah County, Alabama (DSC05731)

Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012 - Eastern Phoebe Nest

Took this on Easter of an eastern phoebe nest on my downspout. Thought it was sort of appropriate. I wanted to check to see if the cowbirds that were hanging around had managed to slip an egg into the nest. Fortunately, they didn't. I am happy that the phoebes are back this year. For several years they nested on a different downspout, but then last year did not return. This year, they have chosen a downspout right next to the garage door which has a very noisy opener. Also, it is near my dryer vent so warm humid air wafts up nearby. It hasn't seemed to bother them though. It's a plus for me because I can easily photograph them in this location. Will try to get the babies periodically as they are growing up. The scientific name for the Eastern Phoebe is Sayornis phoebe. Etowah County, Alabama (IMG_1472)
