The concrete blocks in the foreground are there to prevent the sea eroding the cliffs at the end of the Town's promenade. If that happened the sea could circumvent the sea wall and flood low-lying areas behind it.

These were obviously taken from slightly different angles but the difference in the cliff's edge profile is still evident. I have seen a record that says the building was moved 15 metres, not 50. Either way it was a major undertaking as it sits on a large concrete slab.

The caption should really read " ...the removal of ANOTHER one....", as at least one more has been removed previously due to cliff erosion. In the 2009 inset photo one can see the buttress beyond the cottage that has just been removed.
