Boatyards opposite Denton Island - Newhaven - 5 10…

This is on the western bank of the western branch of the River Ouse in Newhaven, East Sussex. The river flows either side of Denton Island. There are more yards on the side of the island facing this. Photoshop Elements was used to create the watercolour effect. Two copies of the photograph were made. The top layer was reduced to outlines and the opacity was lowered so they were very light. The layer underneath had a filter used to soften the edges of the shapes. One could have just used that layer, but the detail in the cranes and masts would have been lost, so the top layer was adjusted to restore those details. Then the two layers were combined and a soft digital eraser made the edges of the photograph more like those on a painting.

I like the whole rather chaotic scene. I am sure that, as with my garage, someone knows what's where.

Taken through a chainlink fence - it was up and off before I could get close enough to avoid the mesh, but it has had little effect on the fox's appearance.

Maritime & Coastguard Agency Pacific 32 MCA Hawk -…

I have no idea whether this little craft is here for maintenance or for decommissioning & sale. It doesn't have any markings visible from these angles to identify it, apart from the Coastguard logo. I have compared this boat with other Coastguard vessels online and the make & model seem to match. If anyone has better information about it, I shall be happy to update the caption.

273 - Denton Island - Newhaven - 5.4.2014

This looks as if it has a naval past, given the grey paint and the number - it doesn't look like a Royal Navy vessel though. It has been at that location for about two years. At one point it had a polythene tent over the after deck and, comparing the older upper photo with the one taken a couple of days ago, there does seem to have been some additional metalwork added, although at first sight not a lot seems to have been done.

There is another view of this former Customs Cutter taken when it was further down this creek. Some work seems to have been done on the superstructure. Some of the rust has had a coat of red oxide and the red hoist is a new addition since then. www.ipernity.com/doc/364457/25823969

Can anyone identify the vessel on the right - 273? It looks naval from the deck down, but the superstructure is new.
