Lots of Kittywakes - no eggs visible and no chicks yet as far as I can see. I never remember when they are actually due to hatch.

Canada Goose on its nest - Cuckmere - update - 11.…

The nest is on an island, so is relatively safe from land-based predators. I wasn't around long enough to see whether a parent returned or whether the eggs had been abandoned. There weren't any Canada Geese in view in the fields near the nest.

The nest is on a small island, in a pond, to one side of the Cuckmere River. I don't know whether this is a natural feature or a man-made one, but it does provide a degree of protection from predators, such as foxes. (Or do foxes swim?)

This one is less about the birds, but more to illustrate how much chalk there is that could come away at any time. There are several big cracks visible, together with loose lumps balanced on ledges and wedged behind the cracked areas. The walkway & beach below has been fenced off since winter's storms brought down big chunks of the cliffs.

In case anyone thought I had forgotten the wildlife, with my recent uploads of industry and armaments, here's a recent find on a walk beside flooded fields in the Ouse valley near Newhaven.
