UTC Super Moon high tide - 29.9.2015

05 Oct 2015 268
This shot shows the current state of the UTC's development. The former engineering workshops on the left are still work in progress. The old carpentry workshop has been converted and there are portable buildings on the right, which I assume are being used as classrooms. There are more behind but I don't know how many are used by the students and how many are construction-related. The college has had an intake of Year 11 pupils, but the full range of courses won't be on offer until next September. The college's website is www.utc-harbourside.org

Tides - high & low - Newhaven

I hadn't been up in the marina area at low tide for a time and, having recently been there when the water was lapping over the quayside promenade, the difference in the height of the water really hit home.

The River Ouse upstream of Newhaven Swing Bridge -…

Looking at this shot I am amazed how little depth of riverbank there is left when the tide is in and the river is full of water off the South Downs. Surely a storm surge in at the high tide could over-top these banks. Further upstream, just beyond the incinerator the banks are a couple of metres above the surrounding fields.
