This is a privately preserved former London Transport bus, which, to judge by the white ribbon and pompom, has been hired to transport wedding guests between venues. This was a very quick snap. My camera was in my backpack when I saw it coming over the hill.

Former London Transport RM1305 (Reg. no. 305 CLT) worked on routes 11 and 36 among others. It moved to Midland Classic where it was seen as recently as April 9, 2010 in Burton upon Trent. By then it had the registration number 799 UXA. On July 10th 2010 it is seen in Deal in L D Lines colours www.flickr.com/photos/22420011@N05/4784104448 . LD Lines is an associate company of Transmanche Ferries which operate the Newhaven to Dieppe ferry service. 11.3.2012 it was still there earlier this week! Update 18.7.2012 - Until very recently it was still parked at this spot.

The lean is all due to the road camber - not lens distortion or a drunk photographer - check the parking sign and the hotel opposite.

I don't know who designed that poster, but I do hope it wasn't an example of the work of L&CSMC. The worst aspect is that it doesn't fit the bus' advertising space. Why go to the length of painting an 'iconic'!!!! bus in an historic livery and then stick a roll of wallpaper on it? Actually wallpaper would have been more creative.

This used to be round in the Ferry Port, visible from trains between Newhaven Town and Newhaven Harbour. Just as I was getting organised to stop off and go into the port and ask if I could snap it, it disappeared, to be found a few days later in a transport depot on the other side of the tracks, with assorted trucks, vans and coaches. It was too boxed in to make it worth asking to snap it there.
