This was my first place of work, in the Welfare Department Area 4, office at the back of this building.

The bridge still seems to have some mechanical problems. The two engineers in dayglo on the far bank had been ducking under the bridge structure before, during and after the opening. Their checks or adjustments seemed to add quite a few extra minutes to the opening programme, causing big road traffic tailbacks from both the Seaford and Brighton directions. As well as swinging, the bridge tilts - higher at this end, lower at the eastern end - in effect unlocking the bridge, before it starts to rotate through 90 degrees.

As a man standing waiting to cross the river said, "Why would they name a ship after a land-locked English county?"

The wispy bits at the front of the view are splashes, not plants!
